My Worm Animation

Worm Animation

 What was the project?

This project was called "The Worm Project." The first step to this project was to make sky, ground, a worm, and if time permitted some clouds, in Adobe Photoshop. The gradient tool was used to make both the blue sky and green ground. Just to note the grass and sky are separate layers. I made a layer for the worm and the worm was made by using the paint tool. I made a layer for clouds as well. I made the clouds and the worm look 3Dish by using bevel and boise. Once everything was touched up in Photoshop I saved the layers into a file. Then I put the file into Adobe After Affects project window. I then used a new tool called the push pin. The push pin creates key frames that let you to warp a spot in an image were the push pin or pins exists. Once all of the pin key frames were set to were I wanted them. I used another tool that is called glue. This tool helped keep the worm in place. Once that was done and all of the pins were in place, I put them in a group hidden from sight. This put them out of the way for the next part of this project. Next I used the tool that is called "Noll," this tool keeps things from moving off a certain point of travel. In this projects' case the Noll makes a layer which, is used to keep the worm from moving up and down as it moves across the page(screen). So I connect the Noll layer to the worm layer. I just use the position key frames, setting them every 10 frames to make the worm move gracefully across the screen. Finally I made the worm a shadow.  Once that was done I rendered the animation, posted it on YouTube, and Embedded it into this blog.

What did you learn?

I learned how to use the pin tool in Adobe After Affects. The pin tool allowed me to make pin key frames and attach them to my worm. Once the pin key frames were set in place I was able to maneuver the middle and back pin key frames, up and forwards a little to make it look like the worm is scrunching up before it takes it's next "step" foreword. I also learned how to use a tool called Noll. I learned how to make a shadow in after affects too. I first copied the worm layer. Then I just had to flip that copied layer horizontally. I turned the color of that layer to night black. Finally I gust turn the opacity down and soften the edges of the shadow.

How did it go?What would be done differently?

This project went pretty well. I would have loved to have been able to make the clouds move across the screen. I also would have made the worm larger so that it wouldn't look so small. I was also little crunched for time, so I was not able to animate the clouds sadly. This project was lots of fun. I can not what for the next project I get to do and all of the new things I will get to learn.

Bouncing ball Sophomore year

Bouncing ball Sophomore year

                                              What was the project?

This project was an updated version of my freshman E9 bouncing ball project.  The first step was to make the sky layers. I colored the first layer blue for the sky using the fill tool and using the gradient tool to make the illusion of light. Next, I made new layer then used the brush tool and changed the look of the brush to look like long blades of grass.  After that, I made a new layer and made a circle using the circle tool.  I was assigned to make a circle using the circle tool on photo shop. I used the gradient tool to make the circle look like a ball. I copied the grass layer and put the copied layer in front of the ball layer and I offset it lower than the first grass layer to make the ball appear to be sitting in the grass.  I then added some clouds in the sky by using the paint brush tool. Next, I put my photoshop work into a project file in adobe after effects. In after effects I used position keyframes to make arcs that the ball will follow.  I used the scale key frames, after making the arcs, to make the squash of the ball for every time the ball hits at each bottom arc. After the squashes were made I made the stretch with the scale and rotation key frames. So, after and before each squash I made  scale key frames. Which narrowed the ball and the ball's height got taller. I then used the rotation key frames to tilt the ball to look as if it was in line with the sides of the arc. After, the ball was finished being animated, I made the clouds move across the screen by just using the position keyframes. Finally, I exported the animation and put it on my Youtube account.

What did you learn?

I learned that animation takes a lot of time and that some animations are made up of many, many, and many key frames. I learned how to use Adobe After Affects and Adobe Photoshop. I learned how to use a gradient on the ball and the sky. I also learned how to change the paint brush tools' shape to look like grass. I also learned how to use Adobe After Affects. I learned how to make arcs in After Affects, by using position key frames. I also learned how to use the scale and rotation key frames to make the ball squash and stretch.

How did it go?What would be done differently?

The project was relatively simple. The animation turned out very good. However, I had a problem with trying to get the layer effect bevel and boise on the ball to get the ball to look 3D but it was not working so I had to opt for the gradient tool instead.

Graphic Design Sophomore Photoshop Work

My First Sophomore Graphic Design E-Comm Work

This past week I have sharpened my knowledge, on the ends and outs of editing photos in the Adobe program Adobe Photoshop. The photos below are all of the finished projects I did in Photoshop, organized from my first project to my last.

The three photos below, I edited with the tool called the Content  Aware Fill tool. This tool helped me touch up unnecessary spot in each of the photos. All I had to do was make a selection using either the square selection tool and/or the lasso tool. Then I clicked the Content Aware Fill  tool which takes the colors from other parts of the photo around the selection and fills it the spot in.  You can also use this tool to move logos around and remove logos, as shown in the third photo down.

Now for the photo below, I used the tool called the patch tool. The patch tool was used to remove a logo from the man's shirt. To use the patch tool I had to use the lasso tool to make a tight selection around the logo. Then I had to deselect part of the shirt once it was moved then I used the patch tool once again to remove the remainder of the logo.

This photo of a model, shown below, was edited by using the clone stamp tool and the Healing brush tool. I used this tool to remove a tag from her coat by using the clone stamp tool. Then once the tag was removed I added texter to the part removed by using the clone stamp tool.

This photo shown below was edited by using the clone stamp tool and the patch tool. I used this tool to remove a poll that looked like it was sticking out of the man's head.

The photo pf the little boy was edited by using the spot healing brush. I used the spot healing brush to remove very small specks of dirt from the boy's face. This tool lets you remove very small detailed parts from photos.

The collage of photos shown below used all of the tools I learned about to follow a guided video on how to build a college of different shots of this girl. I combined all of the tools I described above and watched a step by step video on how to put together this collage.

This photo was the challenge which combined all of the skills I learned, letting me and my imagination go free editing this man and landscape photos together to make a master piece.

The photos below are my branding, billboard and flyer photos. I used the skills I talked about in the upper photos to make each of these photos.

What was My  favorite skill I learned and why will it be valuable in the future? What were my strengths/weaknesses?

My favorite skill I learned had to be the Clone stamp and Patch tool. These tools will help me in clean up some unnessisary marks or mistakes in the future. My strengths had to be that I had some knowledge in how to work photoshop which helped me work through each of the editing videos that helped me edit each photo,(except the challenge there was no video).

What would I do different? What would I do the same? Why?

I would have liked to have had more time to work on making some of these photos so they look more cleaner edited. I would do the challenge the same because I loved the way it turned out.

Conclusion

These projects were very different than I am used to but I feel like most of them were successful. I loved the Challenge that was my favorite part of the whole project.

Animation History: The Story of Animated Drawing

                            The History of Animation:
                                          Walt Disney

In 1954 a television show on ABC was aired. This television show was a partnership
between ABC and Walt Disney. The television show was called, "Disneyland," and is currently
named, "The Wonderful World of Disney." Each episode has a run time of a hour. The series
lasted for a span of an incredible 54 years with 13 seasons, all hosted by Walt Disney.
This episode is Walt Disney talking about the evolution of animation and how the animation
techniques have changed throughout the ages.

The first part of this episode talks about how animation has been around for a very long time.
According to Walt Disney the hieroglyphs on the Egyptian walls reasembles a set of frames of
animations. He talked about how animating a drawing to make it move would have only been
"wishful thinking for the people in the 1920's,"(Walt Disney). Walt then tells us that the
concept has been around for a very long time we just never knew still paintings had the
potential of turning into moving and alive paintings. He said they made a book called "The Art of
Animation." I believe you can still find and purchases this book today. He then talks about
the people in history who helped make the dream of the animated drawing. One person who made
a huge brake through in animation, was E. Reynaud. The machine he had created needed long
slips of paper that looked like film strips. On those "film strip" he had to hand paint each motion
he wanted the character to have. With this he made a show called "Pantomimes Lumineuses." In his
life time as a showman he produced 7 other shows. He even had each one accompanied by music.

The second part of the episode was about a man by the name Winsor Mccay. He became known
for his animated show with Gerdy the Dinosaur. For his show he appeared on the stage before
his audiences  and he would seem to talk to the Dinosaur. At the end of each show when it was time
to sat goodbye he would go behind the curtain, out of view from the audience. When he did so
an animated figure of himself would appear on the screen and ride out of frame on the dinosaur.
Walt goes on to talk about the first animated cartoon to ever appear in a series of short films that
were made by a man named J.R Bray. He made up the Bray's studios. Walt then talked about the
making of the silent pictures in the mid 1920's. Walt then talks about the music accompaniment
that was added to the silent pictures. Finally, he talked about the cartoons that were made with sound.
In 1949 the first silly symphony was made that the animation was made to go along with music.
.
I was not able to find the third part of the episode.
The fourth and final part of the episode, showed the animation based on the painting that Walt talked
about at the very beginning of the episode. This animation was called, "The Waltz of The
Flowers," from "Fantasia."This animation was a black and white animation accompanied by
music.

4th Quarter Reflection E9

4th Quarter Group Project and Presentation

What was the project?

The project was to create a product and company name. We had to advertise our product and company

through a website, a commercial, animations, and graphics.
Our company name is BACA.
 BACA stands for:
Brianna
Amber
Cas
Alex
Our product is called the "Micro- Fridge." It is called the"Micro- Fridge," because our product is a mini fridge with a mini microwave on top. The "Micro- Fridge" was created to conveniently fit inside of a locker. It is also portable. This product is perfect for high school to collage students. Our slogan is "Small But Powerfull."

How long did it take?

This project took the whole 4th quarter.

What were some challenges you faced?

I would have liked the work on the website divided up more equally because I designed the whole web site along with edit all of the warning and product info animation and the 2d and 3d animations into the video. Alex didn't do anything even when we assigned him parts of the product to do. Then the rest of the group had to do his parts when it was way to close to the project dead line. We had to improvise on the presentation day because we  were missing a group member.

What did you learn along the way?

I learned that some times people in your group can be hard to work with and other times they can be great to work with. Teamwork and communication was very important to make this project a success. I learned that both time management and project management are both very important. I learned how to add music to the commercial in Adobe Primer. I also learned how to add in animations into Adobe Primer.

What was some feedback you were given?

The video was very good, according to some of the other students in the audience. They also said that the colors in the web page were great.

What did you change?

I believe if we had more time to practice our presentation, it would have gone smoother. We needed to divide the work lode more equally and everyone should have been working on at least something. I would also change the web banner and correct the spelling of powerful in our slogan, "Small But Powerful."

What is your overall opinion of your work in 4th Quarter?

This project was very stressful at times but I believe it was successful because we had a good plan on what we wanted to do for this project by collaborating at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

How did you use your time this quarter?

How did you use your time in class?

I used my time as wisely as I could however my other team mates got lazy some days and didn't want to do anything so some days were slower than others.

How did you stay productive in the times that you finish early or thought you were done?

If I finished early I would go through my project and double check that I have everything that is needed. I will fix parts of the project that need fixing or adding to. Then I would look over the project for a third or fourth time.

What do you do outside of class to enhance your work as a e-communication student or to better your projects?

If I haven't finished a project I would stay after school to finish it. If I can do a part of a project at home I will. If I can get a head on a project and I have time on my hands, I will work on it.

What are your areas of strength as an employee or e-Communication student after one year?

How do you maximize your strengths?

I am good at being creative and organized. I make a plan before starting anything. Once the project is planed out I can start the project and put my creative spin to the outline if there is one.

What are your areas in need of improvement?

What did you do to support or improve in these areas?

My communication skills needed improving. With practice over this year I have improved speaking to large groups of people.

Summery

I loved  the animation and graphic design parts of the 4th quarter project. I would like to improve my animation skills. I I learned how to use all of the 5 garenties during the making of the 4th quarter project. I would change the divison of work through out the group better.  I want to learn more about animation and graphic design. I cannot wait for next year e-Comm.

E9 4th Quarter Final Group Project Blog Post

My commercial

About The Project

The "Micro- Fridge" was created to conveniently fit inside of a locker. It is also portable. This product is perfect for high school to collage students. Our slogan is "Small But Powerfull." (See the graphic below to see how the slogan was used in the web banner.)

What was your process in creating?

Graphic design:

I made to web banner and the product logo. Before I had even got on to the computer to start making the graphics, I first drafted out my ideas on a piece of paper. Once I found the one I liked the best and the group okay-ed it I then went to the computer to make the graphic.

Animation:

I made the 2D animation. Like the graphic designs I made, I first drafted my idea out onto paper. I labeled which colors I wanted in each circle. Then I got into Photoshop and created the animation.

Video:

First we filmed all of the shots we wanted. Then I put the clips into Adobe Primer and put them all together. Next I added music and adjusted the audio volumes. I added all of the animations and voice overs.

Website:

I followed along with the videos that Mr. Olson made. I made a home page, a more about the product page, company info and locations page, coupons page, and an ad page. Then I added the graphics to the right pages. I also added in all the information that was needed.

What did I learn along the way?

I learned that some times people in your group can be hard to work with and other times they can be great to work with. Teamwork and communication was very important to make this project a success. I learned that both time management and project management are both very important. I learned how to add music to the commercial in Adobe Primer.  What would you do different? why?

I would have liked the work on the website divided up more equally because I designed the whole web site along with edit all of the warning and product info animation and the 2d and 3d animations into the video. However, Amber did help me with the product descriptions and edit the sound in the video. She also made the 3d animation.

What would you do the same? Why?

I would keep how we divided up the work in Mrs. Smith's class. We divided the work up very well in her class and we got it all done very efficiently.

Explain the group presentation process? Was it a success in your eyes? Why or why not? What would you do differently?

The group presentation was pretty good considering we were missing a group member. However, I still think we could have practiced more so that we were more prepared. I do believe it was a success in getting the information across. The parts I would change would be the preparation leading up to the presentation and getting rid of the long pauses.

General thoughts and conclusions.

I believe if we had more time to practice our presentation, it would have gone smoother. We needed to divide the work lode more equally and everyone should have been working on at least something.

Animation Rotation

Animation Rotation Overview

I have gotten the 2D animation for the product color finished. The warning word 2D animation still needs to be finished. I am working on the website right now. My team has been working somewhat successfully, however we still must finish multiple things, the web site being only one part of the project. We need to improve our time management.
