e9 Quarter 2 Reflection

What are your areas of strength in the content areas that you learned this semester (animation, graphic design or video)?
In graphic design I was good at using the sketch book to sketch out my ideas to put into illustrator. I was good at using photoshop for the first time in animation class.

What are your areas in need of improvement?

I would like to improve my skills in adobe illustrator for graphic design. Also, I would like to improve my skills on making things congruent in sketchup when they need to be. I want to learn more ways to use photoshop for animation.

What did you love most about this semester?
I can't say which class I liked better than the other because I loved all the projects in both classes. I think my favorite project that I did in graphic design was the sketch for a social problems. Then for animation class I loved making the arcs and animation project in photo shop.

What would you change or do differently?
In animation class I would change how I animated the bird in the arcs and animation project. I would have also spent more time on the animation of the bouncing ball so that it would not have some glitches in the animation of the ball falling and coming back up.

What is your overall take-away or learning from this semester?
My overall take-away from this semester is that I want to now learn more about animation and graphic design. I loved learning how to animate in photoshop. I also loved learning how to use illustrator and would like to do more graphic design projects on that program in the future.

What’s one goal you would like to set for next semester? Final thoughts?
My goal for next semester is that I want to ace my Q4 project. I want to be in animation class and graphic design class next year.

Web Design Reflection

What was the process? How long did it take?
The process of this project started by going into google classroom. Then, I had to watch six videos that my teacher made. In the videos my teacher showed me how to add files into Dream Weaver. Dream Weaver is the program I used to make my website on. After all the files I needed were on Dream Weaver I learned how to add a photo of my self and the information I wanted on my web page. My teacher showed me how how to read the code and how to make links.

How did you use your time in class?
I used my time very efficiently in class. I did not have to work on the website on the finals day. I had already finished the day before because I did not wast any of the time I was given.
What were some challenges you faced?
I faced some challenges at the end of the project. I had to make my links look more like links. So I had to copy and paste a section of the code multiple times. Then I had to change the names in the code. This took me multiple times of re-watching the instructions to figure it out.

What did you learn along the way?

Along the way I learned about code. I also learned how to read some of the code. I also learned how to add color to a website.

What is your overall opinion on the web design process and your final outcome?
I think the the web design process was okay. It was not my favorite project I have done. However, it was good for something different. I liked the design part of this project the best part. I really liked my final outcome. I would consider making another website with more design on it.

House Animation

Process
The first step to the house project was to find a photo of a real life house and its house plans. Next I made the base of the house using the pencil tool. After the base was made I used the push pull tool and pulled the base up 9 feet. Then I used the offset tool to make the roof. After I set the offset tool about 2 inches out from the base I push pulled the roof up about 11 feet because that is how high the house plans said the roof was. After I made some adjustments on the roof I made windows using the tape measure, rectangle tool and offset tool. Then I used the paint bucket tool and painted the edges and that side of the house a wood pattern before using the push pull tool to make the windows. I then made the gutters by using the push pull tool on the ends of the roof  and then using the offset tool to go in .5". After the offset tool was set, I used the push pull tool to push down about 5". Next I made stairs and the deck using the rectangle tool, push pull tool, and the pencil tool. Lastly, I made the sidewalk and landscaping.

Whats New
Learning how to make a full house was new. I also learned how to use the ware house. I learned different ways to use the selective tool and move tool.

Take Always For Next Time
Next time I would have chosen a simpler roof design. Also, I would have found more colorful plants from the ware house.

Process
This week in e-comm, animation class, I made a small video over my 10 strengths. The first step was to use the typing tool and type out 10 words that describe me. After I typed the words out I placed them in the form, that looked best for this project. Next I went onto the nternet and looked for a non-copyright photo to use for my background and color plait for the words. After the photo was chosen, it was embedded into my project with its own layer. I then used the video time line on photo shop. Then I shortened and lengthened the time when each word comes in. I also made the transitions on how each word came into view. Lastly I added fading to begining and the end of the video.

Whats New
This week I learned how to use the video time line on photo shop. I also learned how to use the text tool more efficiently. I also learned how to upload videos to YouTube. I also got a YouTube account set up.

Take Aways For Next Time
Next time I will have spent more time thinking of a different way to organize the words in a more complex shape/picture.

Arcs and Anticipation

The Process

The Arcs and Anticipation  project is the second project in photo shop, that I did over the coarse of  this week. This paper was however horizontal instead of vertical and required more time. First, I made a layer that I used the filler/ paint bucket tool to fill with the color of black. Next, I added text in  another layer which says "Arcs Animation" and my name. After that, I made a new layer that was filled using the fill/ paint bucket tool sky blue. I made another layer, then used the selection tool to draw a box from about a 3 quarter down from the top of  the page and brought it down to the bottom of the page. The box was then colored green with the filler tool. Now after the back ground and into layers were done I made a guide for the ball to follow. The guide started at the top of the left side of the page going up and down in arcs. The guide hit in four places. After the guide was made I made another layer and drew a ball using the circle tool. I then copied that layer. Next I put a smiley face on one of the layers and a frowning face on the other using the brush tool. All there was to do after that step was to make new layers for each ball and line them up on the guide. The smile faces were used on the curves and the frowning faces were used when the ball "hit" the ground. After the ball layers were lined up I then squashed and stretched them as needed as it moved down and up the guide. At the end of the arcs for my  conclusion I had a raven come from the distance and pick up the ball and take it away. I made this happen by using the paintbrush tool and drawing the bird on every new layer
only as there in a new layer the bird gets bigger as well as the ball after the bird picks it up the now spooked ball. Lastly I ended the animation with a fade out to a black screen with the end on it. I also had added a fade in at the beginning of the animation after I put all of the layers into the create animation timeline.

What You Learned?
I learned now to use the fade in and out tool. I learned how to use the paintbrush tool. Also I learned how to add and place text.

How You Think You Did?
I think I did good but I wish I had a little more time though. I could have also worked more on learning how to place the text, I had some problems with that. I think I need more practice on using the fading tool too. Over all though I think the animation turned out descent.

Bouncing Ball Animation Project

SUMMARIZE
The quarter for school ended and now I am in the animation part of e-comm. The bouncing ball project was the first project in photo shop, that I did over the coarse of  the week. First, I  colored the first layer blue for the sky using the fill tool. Then I clicked new layer then used the selection tool to draw a box at the bottom of the page. This was colored green with the filler tool. After that I made a new layer and made a circle using the circle tool.  I was assigned to make a circle using the circle tool on photo shop. I used the gradient tool to make the circle look like a ball and copied that layer 8 more times. I moved each ball down with a farther distends from the previous layers ball and each one got longer as they went down. The second to last layer is pulled up then the last layer is horizontal. Lastly I animated the ball by clicking the timeline tool. I then added the slides and for each slide I clicked the previous ball layer to not be seen and the next too be seen. Finally I copied the slides and reversed them. I deleted the duplicates and set the play time on forever.

WHAT YOU LEARNED?
I was introduced to photo shop. In photo shop I learned how to make and add layers. I also learned many different key combinations. I also learned how to make a sun spot on the circle to make it look like a round 3D ball. I did this by using the gradient. I also learned how to use the filler tool, which I used on the blue sky and the green ground.

WOULD YOU DO DIFFERENT OR SAME NEXT TIME?
If I were to do this project again I would try to make the ball bounce in different places. I could have also made the ball smaller. I think a moving sun would look cool too. Also, I think moving clouds would add a to the back drop.

Social Media posts follow you every were, even to college.

The article, "They loved your GPA, then they saw your Tweets" by Natasha Singer, was about how colleges not only look at your grades but also your social media life. In Brunswick, Maine there is a collage called Bowdoin College. This college is one of many how have admissions officers who check the students social media posts. High school counselors are trying to now help students to make smart chooses on social media. In the article there was a senior who posted disparaging comments on Twitter about her fellow students. This comment caused some colleges denied the students' admission. This has happened to many other students who have posted unnecessary things on social media websites , which is what this article was about.

What was interesting in this article was that so many collages check social media activity.    "According to the article "of 381 college admissions officer who answered a Kaolin telephone questionnaire this year 31% said they visited the applicants social media," (Singer 1). I also thought that it was interesting that collages can easily regent an applicant because they have so many other applicants who want to go to their collage. Although checking students social media profiles can also be seen as a violation of the students privacy. I do however support the schools who do check the applicants social media profiles. It might lead for much better and more deserving students to get into good collages.

Handwriting Blog Post

10/7/16

This week in e-communications I learned about different types of handwriting with two different assignments. The first assignment was in Illustrator. For this project I was told to use the rectangle tool to make the letters in my name. I had to start with one long rectangle. The I copied and pasted that rectangle multiple times. Next I shorted, rotated, and lengthened the rectangles. Then I placed them to form the letters in my name. The most challenging part of this assignment was putting the purple background  behind my my letters. My favorite part of this project was making the letters different sizes and lengths. I also enjoyed making the pumpkin that is in the bottom left corner. The pumpkin was made by using the circle/oval tool. Placing the stares around the page as my final touches was fun. I am very pleased with my finished protect, it reminds me of Halloween.

The second assignment was in my sketch book. On one page of the sketch book I had to have my signature, 10 adjectives the at describe my personality, and my name in at least 3 different fonts. The 10 different adjectives that I used in my project were: curious, musical, bright, imaginative, smart, caring, joyful, artistic, creative, and friendly. The first font type I used was my version of a bubble lettering which is located at the bottom of the page. The type of font that is on the left side of the paper is a version of kid font. The font at the top of the page is my version of a oriental font. The last font style I used was my version of collage font on the right side of the paper. Around each one of the font styles I made it look like the fonts were one banners by outline and coloring inside the out line.

Learning presentation skills

This week I learned presentation skills and the processes of presenting. On Monday the e9 class got a three page packet over " How to give a short class presentation." There are two parts to a presentation: information and show. There are many different components at how to present information. During a presentation you must always speak loudly but not yell, so that the people you are presenting to can hear you. You must also speak in a clear tone, slowly, so that the people can understand what you are talking about. When you maintain good posture, have a smile on your face, dressing nice, and giving good eye contact with your audience will make you look more professional. Being engaged and varying the tone of your voice will keep your audience interested in your presentation. Two of the most important things you should not do are step back and forth, pace or dance, Also avoiding the words "um, so yeah, uh, like, ext" will make you sound like you know what you are talking about and sound more professional.

After going over good presentation skills we had to evaluate three Ted presentation on how they dressed, their facial expressions, how much eye contact they gave, and their posture. We had to rate them with a 1 as no good at all to a 5 for good. The first speakers name was Bill gates. I gave his a 4, for professional appearance. I only gave him a 4 because he was wearing nice cloths, dress pants and a button up shirt but the shirt didn't look very professional to get a 5. For facial expressions he got a 3 because he had a very gloomy expression and showed little change in his Facial expressions, His eye contact how ever was phenomenal earning him a 5. He kept eye contact with his audience through out his whole presentation. Lastly his posture got him a 4 he had an okay posture he was bent over a little that is way he did not get a 5 in that category. The next speaker's name was Bjorn Lomberg. He got a 3 for professional appearance. He was wearing jeans, which are never professional, but his shirt was decent. He got a 4 for facial expressions because he showed better facial expressions than the previous presenter. He got a 5 for eye contact, he kept eye contact with the audience through the presentation. He also got a 5 for his posture, he kept his posture for the whole presentation. he last presenter's name was Jamie Oliver. He got a 3 for his professional appearance because he was wearing jeans and a not so professional shirt. For his facial expression I gave him a 4, he smiled at the appropriate times and got serous at the appropriate times. His amount of eye contact earned him a 3. He had very little eye contact and at one time turned his back to the audience. Lastly his posture got a 4 because he leaned on the table at one time.

I presented my sketchbook and blog on Thursday the 22. I first told the class my name. Then I showed them my sketch. I was very nevus and was shaking but I think it went well. I read my blog and tried not to say "um, uh, like". I  believe my poster and eye contact were good. I did speak loudly and clearly. After I finished presenting, I showed my sketch again. Then I went back to my seat.

THE SKETCH BOOK

On Monday, September 12-16, 2016,  I was assigned my first project in the sketch book. I was assigned to make an Illustration of "What is graphic design".
My first step to this assignment was to lightly sketch out my design. I first drew a black line from about 1/4 down diagonally from the top of the page. After I drew the line, I sketched the words "What is" on the left side of the line with the tops of the letters on the line at a diagonal. The words "Graphic Design" were then placed on the right side of the line horizontally. The letters of "What is Graphic Design" were all in block form of typography. I chose this type of typography because it is very eye catching and pops out nicely. Next, I drew a side of a face on the left side of the paper. I colored the face platinum for a neutral color that wouldn't clash with the other bright colors. Then I put pop labels in the hair, every other large strands. I used four pop labels: AW, Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Crush. I love the different ways the logos are designed. I also love using these pops and ice cream to make ice cream flouts. The strands of hair that don't have the pop labels are dotted with the color from the surrounding colors. I added swirled patterns on the top corners of the right side of the line. I made the patters Fall colors, for a different variety of warm colors among the cool, green color. The light blue hand that is behind the words "Graphic Design," represents the strong friends and family relationships in my life.  My favorite part my assignment is the face with the pop logos in the strands of hair. I love this part the best because it was the most creative part of this piece, in my opinion. This project was fun and I would love to do is again.

THINKING ABOUT COLOR by Brianna Scott

My favorite color is violet. My old room was this brilliant color. Also my childhood revolved around this color. I had a stuffed dog that was a pretty light violet when I was little. Logos that have this color in them are the Hallmark logo and the Yahoo logo. If I could change the color of the inside of the school it would be light violet because it makes me happy and calm. Many foods like plums, eggplant and grapes are all this color. Although many of the foods I listed have a darker tint to them, my favorite color is more of a tent than a shade. My favorite color is a bright tint of violet like in the photo to the right.

My least favorite color is black. Black reminds me of the dark night. Black also reminds me of death. Black also reminds me of the dresses and suits at funerals. Food that is this color is black licorice. I do not like black licorice either.  I would never want to change the color of any buildings to black because it is such a sad and drowsy color. This is the dark color you add to other colors to make shades, there for it is neither a tent or a shade.

Learning how to use Adobe Illustrator

My name is Brianna Scott and I am currently enrolled in a 21st century program at my high school called e-communications. In this class I am leaning new skills in graphic design.

August 30, 2016
My teacher had us install Adobe Illustrator onto our computers. She showed us how to make a new file and how to use the typing tool. Which needed to put our names on the paper. The next tool she showed us was called the rectangle tool. This automatically made a rectangle once you clicked on the paper, Then you can make the rectangle larger are smaller. The assignment that she assigned us was: to make a circle, star, rectangle, square, and polygon, using the rectangle tool. After we made the shapes, my teacher showed us how to add color to each of the shapes. First I had to click on the shape that needed color. Then I clicked the color I wanted for my shape from the color guide. My shape had color now. I colored all of my other shapes different colors and agusted their sizes.

 August 31, 2016
On this day, I learned how to use the shaper tool. This tool I personally think is more easier to use than the rectangle tool. The shaper too allows me to draw the shapes like a circle, After making the shape I want I can lengthen or shorten the shape like the rectangle tool. unlike the rectangle tool the shaper tool allows me to put another shape on top of a shape and erasing the lines that I don't need. On this assignment I first had to make a big circle. Then I clicked on the circle and made it in to a "pack-man" like shape. Next, I made a medium/ small size circle. I then moved that circle to line up with the middle of the circle to the middle of the "pack-man" mouth. After, I lined up the circle I erased the lines inside the "pack-man" shape. I colored the shape red. Next I made a small circle, then moved that circle onto the corner of the second circle. I erased that circle which created a dent into  the other circle. I made one more very small circle and colored it yellow. I placed the yellow circle on the edge of the cut of the circle. Finally I made a rectangle then colored it blue. I then made it the size of the page. I right clicked on the rectangle and put it behind my circles.

September 1, 2016
I finished my assignment from the other day, then started my third assignment for this week. My teacher told us that our last assignment for the week was to use the new tools we learned, to make our own graphic designs. I made a face in moon with stars around the moon. I made this because I love looking at the moon and stares at night. When ever I look at a full moon, I always see a face which makes me think of the story about the man in the moon. This gave me the inspiration for this graphic design project.I made a face using an four small ovules (for the ears and eyes). One large size ovule was used for the head. I also made four more circles, two used for the color of the eyes. The other two were used for the pupils of the eyes. I used  I made one large circle and colored it white to gray to black shade. I put the moon over the face and then clicked on the face so that it showed up in the moon. Finally, I used the rectangle tools to make multiple stars. I made the stars yellow and placed them around the moon.

Sidewalk chalk progect

On Monday, August 22, 2016, my e-communications class started a sidewalk chalk project. We were put into groups of five on the first day. we then were told to pick a color; blue, white, red, black, purple, green, yellow, or orange. I picked green, which met growth and nature loving. The other colors that my group picked were; blue, red, yellow, black, orange, and white. After we picked our colors we got to find a symbol and then start brainstorming. On Tuesday, August 23,2016, each person in my group decided to use the Olympic symbol. Then in each circle we put our symbol. I picked the tree of life. On Wednesday, August 24, 2016, we went out side to draw the final product using chalk.

We did have a small problem when we were drawing with two people drawing their circle too big. This made the other three people have to make their circles smaller. The group as a hole worked good together when it came to dividing up the rectangle. We worked good together and came out with a great product.
